When Solomon writes this, he uses his mother and he uses her in a way to suggest that she is wisdom. She is a woman who has lived under both ways. She understands in loving this man that she was married to that in the beginning, it wasn’t so wonderful. It wasn’t such a wonderful thing how they got together, but she realized that there was a price to pay. She lost her child, didn’t she? Didn’t she? And she might have cried out to God, and said, Lord, I had nothing to do with it. When the king said, come to him and he took what he wanted, I had to, but you took my child anyway. Don’t we sometime get angry at God and say, Lord, I don’t understand this. What did I do? Why is this happening to me? And we can say that about our children all day long, but God’s grace and mercy goes far beyond sometimes what we think and believe should be happening in our life right at this moment.
